VALD Urges Integration of Artificial Intelligence into Tobacco Control Systems in Ghana

Vision for Alternative Development (VALD), called for the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Ghana’s tobacco control systems to strengthen public health surveillance, enforcement, research, and policy implementation.

The call highlights the growing role of digital technologies in addressing emerging public health challenges, including the monitoring of tobacco industry activities, illicit trade, online advertising, and the use of novel nicotine and tobacco products. AI has the potential to support data driven decision making, improve compliance monitoring, and enhance the effectiveness of tobacco control interventions.

As Ghana continues to strengthen the implementation of tobacco control measures, leveraging innovative technologies such as AI can contribute significantly to protecting public health and advancing a tobacco free future.
